LAKEVIEW, Ore. – More than 3500 lightning strikes were recorded between Sunday, July 23, and Thursday, July 27, according to South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership.
Interagency fire resources have been quickly responding to new lighting-caused wildfires. Initial attack was generally very successful, due to precipitation and the status of green live fuels and, of course, the good work of initial attack crews, dispatchers and support.
Number of fires reported in our area between Sunday July 23 to July 27th 48 with 83 acres impacted.
Lightning activity has been predicted to decrease, therefore new fire starts over central and eastern Oregon will decline on Thursday and Friday as the atmosphere dries and stabilizes. However, hot and dry weather will likely keep initial attack resources busy with holdover fires from the previous days of concentrated lightning.
